Keeping Warm

Energy bills only seem to be going up, so here is some information to try to save some money by minimising the draughts and heat loss in the winter with new curtains.

Front and back doors are often one of the main culprits, but also are prone to having less space to fit curtain tracks or poles.  Scotts Interiors will rise to the challenge and find a solution for your awkward doors and windows.  We can supply and fit both wooden and metal poles in a recess, portiere rods, or supply track solutions to enable curtains to be hung.  We have a huge range of poles and tracks available, as well as hundreds of fabrics to choose from

According to research, drawing curtains can reduce heat loss by up to 17 percent, especially in a draughty house.  Add interlinings to the equation and you can improve the odds even more.  Interlining is a layer of usually fluffy lining that sits in between the face fabric of the curtains and the lining so you end up with three layers.  Not only does this give you an extra thermal layer, it gives your curtains extra body and will enhance the over all appearance of your curtains.

Another option is to use thermal lining instead of a standard lining.  These linings have a coating on them which reduces the holes in the fabric weave, meaning less heat loss, as well as helping with sound insulation.

Blackout lining is also an excellent thermal layer, not only keeping light out, but keeping warmth in.  You can really go to town and have interlining with blackout or thermal lining to create a heavy, sumptuous curtain, and reducing heat loss by up to 33 percent.

These rules apply to commercial premises too, and we offer flame retardant versions of these linings and fabrics where required.

A new product on the market is a thermal shield blackout lining.  This features an energy reflecting silver coating which can be used to help keep the heat in.  Alternatively, this lining could be used facing the outside instead to keep the heat out if you have a particularly sunny room in the house.
